Proteomics principles and challenges *

چکیده

Proteomics studies rely on high-resolving separation techniques whereby the biological complexity can be unraveled. Both gel-based and liquid-phase separation principles are needed in order to mine deeper into the low abundant area of the proteins expressed in human cell samples. The expression levels that can be reached today with proteomics technology are still only reaching part of all proteins present in complex biological samples. The challenge to be met is not an easy task and will, in many aspects, be determined by the speed and success whereby the analytical field can make milestone progress. Examples will be given from our research group on proteomics studies, as well as principles and challenges within this research area.

Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry-Based Proteomics: Biological and Technological Aspects.

Mass spectrometry-based proteomics has become the tool of choice for identifying and quantifying the proteome of an organism. Though recent years have seen a tremendous improvement in instrument performance and the computational tools used, significant challenges remain, and there are many opportunities for statisticians to make important contributions. In the most widely used "bottom-up" appro...

Centennial paper: Proteomics in animal science.

Proteomics holds significant promise as a method for advancing animal science research. The use of this technology in animal science is still in its infancy. The ability of proteomics to simultaneously identify and quantify potentially thousands of proteins is unparalleled. In this review, we will discuss basic principles of doing a proteomic experiment. In addition, challenges and limitations ...

This paper presents the findings of a study on Iranian  English language teachers’ understanding of  Task-based language teaching (TBLT) principles and  perceived challenges of TBLT implementation in Iran. The data obtained from 100 respondents on a 39-item survey instrument and four essay questions analyzed through frequency statistics revealed that nearly 70 percent of teachers are cognizant ...

Improving the Robustness and Reproducibility of Mass Spectrometry Based Proteomics

Proteomics technology has improved dramatically over the last decade. The technology developments have largely been directed around instrument hardware, where instruments have been developed that scan faster, are more sensitive, and have greater mass measurement accuracy. However, the basic workflow has remained largely unchanged – mass spectrometers are directed toward the acquisition of tande...

Proteomics in Diagnosis: Past, Present and Future

Proteome was coined by Marc Wilkins, which he used for the entire complement of protein expressed by a genome, cell, tissue or organism. Proteomics is the study and characterization of complete set of proteins that are present in cell, organ, or organism at a given time [1]. Unlike genomes proteomes have both temporal and spatial variations which escalate the complexity of its study. However, t...
